That should work to remove the Pf30 cups as well.

Editing to add: You may need to spread the fingers a bit to ensure they contact the cups. I think that particular tool is designed for smaller diameter BBs (24mm) which may explain why you hit the bearings rather than the cups. but you can adjust by bending out the fingers a little.
