+1. Extending threads is pretty easy if you have the tools. A decent bike shop will have at least an English thread (1" x 24tpi) thread die. Better shops will have more selection.

You don't say what thread spec your fork uses or where you are located. Either or both these pieces of information may help in finding a solution for you.
