The song is Zulu hunting chant, adapted by Solomon
Linda, a south african entertainer. It was
picked up by Pete Seeger who titled
it Wimoweh in 1954. The song was made famous by the Tokens who recorded it in 1961.
It has been covered by almost every aspiring Folk group from the 60's.
Original lyrics are:
Hush, hush, the lion is sleeping, the lion is sleeping, creep up softly on him, for If we are successful, there shall be lion meat tonight.
A bit different than
Hush my darling, don't fear my darling, the lion sleeps tonight. . .
