This week the NYPD was denied in it's lawsuit against Times-Up! requesting an injunction against cyclists participating in the monthly Critical Mass. In his ruling, the judge brought up some very favorable arguments for both CM participants, and cyclists at large in the NYC area.
Times-up!, the environmental direct action group is celebrating with a very bike-friendly dance party at their space on 49E Houston, between Mott and Mullberry. 9pm.
The proceeds will serve to keep the space on Houston, and help pay for the fees and legal team that have promoted and fought for cyclists rights in the courts. Even if you aren't a supporter of the CM rides, realize that the court ruling has reverberations for future cases involving the most basic of rights--including the right to assemble, free speech, and of course, to ride your bike in the city streets.
