Front shifter is friction and works with any FD.
In theory, rear shifter will index only with a 740X RD for 8 speeds OR with any Shimano RD except 740X for 9 speeds, OR any RD in friction setting.
Never used one that way myself, but that’s what’s supposed to happen according to legend.
