That happened to my PX-10 thirty years ago… The seat tube rusted out, the tube broke, and it rode really weird all the way home… Paul Sadoff of Rocklobster Bicycles in Santa Cruz replaced that tube… He also changed the tube size to accommodate a non French seatpost… Yay… Since he had the torch going, he added braze-on mounts for Mafac Cantilever brakes, some fender / rack mounts, and a pair of water bottle mounts… All great improvements and the bike has not had any further issues…
