That's almost exactly 65 kg, which makes the chosen weight limit seem less arbitrary.

I once saw a Columbus catalog that specified a weight limit for SL steel tubing of 180 lbs and lower limits for their lighter tube sets. There might have been a number of other European manufacturers that had weight limits for their products, but it's likely that very few of us in the U.S. knew about them.
