Lower-end, maybe, but mind you, these '80s Shimano components (and Suntour of this era too) work quite well. My All Terra had Exage thumbshifts and derailers, and it worked beautifully.

Only drawback that I see here to yours is that the rings aren't bolted on, but built into the crankset - I've never been fond of these type cranksets.
