I got a nicer one for free (how's that for one-upsmanship?)
I was hauling home remodel trash to the transfer station (aka dump) and there on top of the pile was a sweet Peugeot mixte, classic mid-'70s UO-8 in white, pristine mint condition EXCEPT they had upgraded the wheels to alloy rims, Super Champion Mod.58 700c with new tires. The rubber mold flash hadn't worn off the center of the tire yet, which typically happens in the first ride. No sign of brake rub on the rims. Who would do such a thing and throw it away, without even trying Craigslist? That's borderline evil.
We gave it to my wife's co-worker, who a year later admitted she never once rode it. Is this bike cursed or something? We should have demanded it back.
OK I'll give the blue one at the top credit for having the original stainless fenders and generator lighting, that is dang cool. But I still think I'd rather have the Mod.58 rims. Maybe call it a tie?
But free is definitely better than $48.
