I remember the day my daughter, then a teenager, gained a new appreciation for Mixte bikes. The week prior I had crashed my beloved touring bike and while waiting for a new frame I converted our townie Mixte (a delightful bike with low-gearing, porteur handlebars, and baskets for grocery shopping) into a skinny tire bike with drop bars and a proper gear range for road. I rode that bike on a few of our long outings and my daughter could not believe how the demured former-grocery-getter mixte could leave her behind in the open road.
Mixtes can have a very road geometry to them. It is amazing how many different ways they can be configured.
