Since you said originally that it was paired with BlueTooth, I assumed you knew.

I believe that Garmin Edge device will pair it by Ant+ if the device is putting out a Ant+ signal.

Are you ensuring that the Di2 is woke up and the 1030 connected to it before you start the timer? I usually just push the hidden buttons under the hoods of my Di2, but if you don't have those buttons, then work the shift lever. Though I think just moving the lever to attempt a shift to the ring the FD is is already in will wake it up. That way you don't have the wear and tear of shifting while not pedaling.

The only time I have issues with the Di2 connecting is when the timer of my Edge 530 is already running. So as I'm taking the bike out of the house, I've gotten into the habit of pushing the buttons under the tops of the hoods after first waking up the Edge 530.
