Of course someone must chime in with a resounding "NO". I have had disc brakes in the past, have serviced dozens of them in a shop setting, and no longer have them for my own fleet. I don't ride in wet weather, thus I have no need for them. I tour and have not found any hindrance with rim brakes. I can go on, but honestly the only place I find them useful is off road or high speed descents where braking hard is required such as when racing. As I am an average 230+ pound guy and ride at average speeds I have come to realize they are more hype to sell more bikes than what is really needed.
