Not touched is that while disc brakes on road bikes are probably a solution to a problem that didn’t exist, they do allow the clearance to use wider tires. The trend now-a-days is 28-32 mm. Those were hard to get past side pulls 15 years ago. I like wider tires, I can run less air, not lose much speed and get a more comfort ride than what I had with 25mm at 10 psi. So for that change, I’m OK with discs.
Sounds like you defined a problem for which disc brakes are a solution.
