I've read that the front SRAM eTap derailleur will work with the crankset, and the SRAM rear mech works with the cassette. Probably/maybe will have to change the brakes, as SRAM pulls less cable. This all sounds do-able, but, am I missing anything? Has anyone actually retrofitted a vintage bike using eTap? Or is there another electronic option out there?

No, I'd rather not buy another bike just yet. OK, I lied - so I'd love another bike, but not now.
