Can I Retrofit Serotta Legend Ti with SRAM eTap ??

I've got a Serotta Legend currently set up with an Ultegra 2x11 groupset, rim brakes. What I want to do is switch to electronic shifting (hand arthritis !) without running clumsy cables or drilling holes in my frame.

I'd like to keep the Ultegra crankset, as it is a 165mm and paid for, plus the Shimano cassette. I've read that the front SRAM eTap derailleur will work with the crankset, and the SRAM rear mech works with the cassette. Probably/maybe will have to change the brakes, as SRAM pulls less cable. This all sounds do-able, but, am I missing anything? Has anyone actually retrofitted a vintage bike using eTap? Or is there another electronic option out there?

No, I'd rather not buy another bike just yet. OK, I lied - so I'd love another bike, but not now.

The Wheeltop system has received some recent buzz in these forums. And from my reading comprehension, no major complaints except you have to charge it on the bike. No removable battery. Customizable to any cassette you will ever own.

The rim brake version is $599.

NEWS Flash: ordered a Wheeltop wireless electronic groupset for rim brakes. Looks like it covers any 2x with from 7 to 13 cassette cog capability - programmable. $519 all in, shipped/tax, from 'AliExcess'. Call it a science experiment!

Yeh, I'm real interested in that groupset. Only thing I can't find is what mech brake system is compatible: Shimano or SRAM (SRAM has less cable pull). Not a deal killer.

All things considered, unless magic happens I am probably going the Wheeltop route. Now to get the nerve to pull the trigger! PS Price shipped ~ $540

SRAM and older Shimano levers work fine with newer Shimano calipers.

But it you don't like the feel any used set of calipers will replace them for cheap. And that keeps your Ultegra parts together.

Since I'm getting the Wheeltop shifters, I'm having to use them. Not sure if they are optimized for Shimano (I suspect that is the case) or SRAM brake pulls. If SRAM then you're right, I'll swap out my brakes for SRAM.

From: San Diego

Bikes: Columbine, Lynskey GR300, Paramount Track Bike, Colnago Super (4), Santana Tandems (1995 & 2007), Gary Fisher Piranha (retired), Bianchi Track Bike, a couple of Honda mountain bikes

Be interesting to see how they work since they are Chinese knock-offs. About $100 cheaper than equivalent SRAM parts, depending on source and sales. I've done several vintage -> SRAM conversions and they all work flawlessly (a couple using Campy cranksets and one Campy cassette and one Shimano cassette - all XDR SRAM components)!
