Why are they here? As far as I can tell there's no real reason to have these four here is there? The Route continues on and they're not on any junctions?
I know I might be missing a trick here but could someone please explain to me the relevance of Waypoints and why these might be placed here guys?

One possible reason is that the older GPS units had a limit of about 500 points for a track. If your track is really long (several hundred miles), the GPS could delete some of the intermediate points to make sure that it did not exceed the numerical limit. In other words, perhaps they are not waypoints which you described them as, they could be track points.
