these cameras have built in alarms, but I think the user has to initiate the alarm. we can also talk to whoever we see, at least w/ the outdoor cameras. same w/ the indoor camera alarm

another feature/benefit, is the cameras can hear & recognize smoke/fire alarms. at which point the user can decide to call 911
