Scientific notation (ridiculously) allows either. Probably got bored of the argument and went to the pub.
I just discussed with my wife about how you can usually always spot a native language speaker from just someone who knows the language well. It's animal / plant names and math (numbers) terminology.
I pride myself in being fairly proficient in English, but when it comes to numbers things my knowledge devolves into "It dat spot dat goes between da numbas. An den... Den dere is a bigger bird poo dat makes bigga numbas!" So basically I'm as smart as a Discworld troll in a Sauna when it comes to counting stuff in English.

What I mean to say is that I did not learn a new word today, because "delimiter" and "integer" makes my head spin.
