The PD-R540 has been on the shimano website for over a year, but it wasn't part of any one group... they've now decided to make it part of the 105 set. The successor to the WH-R550 wheelset has also been put in the 105 group for marketing purposes.
It looks like a good pedal, if you are considering the 540, I think there is a Look KEO model in the same price range to compare it with ($75).
