It's possible, don't get me wrong, but it's far from guaranteed. The ID of the flat bar on a hybrid I just measured is 18.9mm. Don't feel like removing the grips on my MTB.

'Bent bars are often designed for bar-end shifters, are they not?

Also, I mistakenly used the term "barend" in my first post when I meant "bar-end shifter".
