It's more about whether you trust the
seller than where you found him. You can arrange a phone call to get a feel.
You can ask to handle payment through PayPal, which has some ways to cover you as a buyer.
...or you can arrange to meet locally, so the forum is only really helping you to meet someone who's selling what you want.
...or you can ask them to start an eBay sale, and you would be protected through their buyer protection scheme.
