My son played trumpet in middle school, but they had an abundance of trumpet players when he joined the HS band in the fall, so he volunteered to move to the French horn. I honestly can't tell if he's enjoyed the change or if he's just trying to convince himself that it was a good move. He's pretty much guaranteed an A in band, though, so maybe that was his motivation all along.
