My only problem with solar/wind is at this stage is it cannot produce enough juice for industry (I think its called baseload power? really not sure) So while it will cut emissions for homes, but since industry is the biggest user of electricity emissions probably wont fall that much?
Nuclear is probably a bad option as well because its also a fossil fuel so in 50 - 100 years you're back at square one.
