I'm sure there was some crossover. My early teens it was mostly rock, Cream, Traffic, Hendrix, Ten Years After, Robin Trower, Mothers of Invention,, plus some blues. But some of the R&B of the day was to my liking. Kool and the Gang, the Spinners, Aretha, some Ray Charles stuff, and of course Stevie Wonder. By 15 a friend had introduced me to jazz and I still need to thank him for that.
I am not generally a fan of country, mostly because of the formula thing and how the stars are made by doing what everyone else does. But some of it is really good, innovative, and loaded with talent. I even like some bluegrass.
Unlike certain others, I try to be open to try any music, regardless of genre, era, or commercial success. What I don't like is when some mediocre band has a big hit and it gets played everywhere for years.
