I had another one of those "Nap Or Ride" conflicts today. I went with Ride, but it was a near thing. Ever been tired enough that you know you shouldn't try to drive more than a few miles?* Yeah, like that. But I wasn't tired on the bike!!
I rode the Big Circuit for the first time this year. Last year I discovered the white coating on the NDS crank was flaking off at the pedal end - this is the Shimano Sante groupset - and I wanted to fix that. I figured it would be a winter project. Well, I FINALLY got to it in late Spring. I rubbed off all the flaking "paint", and used an emory board to remove the corrosion that had been under the paint. Then I too the crank to CVS to look for nail polish that matched. The problem was, the nail polish is somewhat translucent! Anyway, I smeared it on thick and now it looks fine from about 4-5 feet. I really like the Circuit, so it was nice to get back on it, even if the headwind was strong enough to knock 4-5 mph off on the descent that makes up the last ~ mile of that route. Just fun to ride and nice to look at!
*"Better Call Saul" featured one of the best car crash scenes ever. Kim is burning the candle at both ends, and is driving to a client meeting with a bunch of files in her car. She just closes her eyes. and WHAM! they cut to her waking instantly as the airbag has JUST gone off She drifted off the road into the weeds, and now that's where all her files are - spread out all over the weeds. Oh, and her arm is broken
