Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

If you're looking to spice up your life a bit, there's still time to be the first to cross the Atlantic in a 1.2 metre vessel, it would be one for the history books!

1.2 meters? A whale could swallow that.

I don't think it counts for the record if you're inside a whale.

Some states even offered to pay to have the compressor installed at peoples' houses so they could fill up at home cheaply. There was so much fear about explosions that sales never caught on. That, and the whole lack of refueling infrastructure.
In the 70's we had compressed natural gas. Have seen a tank that turned itself inside out. But that happened in a garage with the tank out of the car. Made a mess of the garage.

What's the current record?

It's a shame MoAlpha disappeared from here.

Don't forget to ask your doctor if you need a lead saddle for your radioactive prostate.

I suspect they have improved the tanks somewhat. In our class they showed a CNG car being dropped from a 50 foot high crane. Then they took a fully charged tank and shot it with a .357 magnum, no leaks. Finally, they shot the tank with an armor piercing round which did cause a leak, but no fire.

I always admired diesel owners that were running their vehicles on fryer and French fry grease. The only bummer is siphoning the tanks behind fast food and Denny’s. I could always tell a grease powered car because there emissions smelled like a deep fryer.

The inverted tank was at the national standards lab for how the heck did that happen testing. The garage it blew up was a small town grease monkey outfit.
Probably a major lapse in safety protocols. Ha, it was the mid 90s, probably no such thing.

You can tell when you're behind them in traffic because you can smell French fries.

I call that “Paying the stupid tax”. Tm RSbob.

Speaking of which, we are having very inclement weather and decided to risk a quick 15 mile ride between showers, It was very lightly misting when I started on my non-fendered bike on dry roads, 10 minutes out the black clouds rolled in and a rain of biblical proportions came down. I brought a light rain jacket and a thankfully empty dog poop bag to place in my helmet - doesnt everyone? Then the lightning and thunder started. I made a quick U-turn and put on the afterburners and was hoping I wouldn’t have any issues with the standing water and huge puddles. I passed another idiot cyclist, bare armed and wearing a vest. I was doing 22 and passed him like he was tied to a post. Not that I was so fast but that he was so slow. I really felt for him considering how long he would be in the monsoon when I am already done.

When I finished, my feet were swimming in the shoes, my rain jacket, vest, jersey shorts were we completely soaked through. The only part of me completely dry was the top of my head under that poop bag. S____ Head for short.
