I suspect they have improved the tanks somewhat. In our class they showed a CNG car being dropped from a 50 foot high crane. Then they took a fully charged tank and shot it with a .357 magnum, no leaks. Finally, they shot the tank with an armor piercing round which did cause a leak, but no fire.
I always admired diesel owners that were running their vehicles on fryer and French fry grease. The only bummer is siphoning the tanks behind fast food and Denny’s. I could always tell a grease powered car because there emissions smelled like a deep fryer.
