I've been staying up until 12:30 or 1 AM most nights lately, but then I wake up at 8 anyway. I thought I might be less nap-prone if I went to bed early, so last night I went to bed at midnight. Dropped right off.
Then I woke up at 3:30 and couldn't get back to sleep. Ended up having to get up and go to the living room so as not to disturb Mrs. GJ. Took most of an hour to get sleepy again. Net result: Same number of hours of sleep, but in a much more annoying way!
Bonus annoyance: when I'm falling asleep after waking up in the middle of the night, there usually comes a time when my mind is letting go of consciousness and starting to wander. Then the conscious part of my brain says, "Hey! You're having those weird thoughts! You're falling asleep! That's great!" and then I'm awake again.

So, you're saying that they "asked for it".

When you race, what do you set your Trainer Difficulty to? I used to race at 100%, but things like the kicker in Downtown Dolphins would have me out of the saddle pouring out the watts, burning matches on every lap. So I'm curious, especially whether you just set it to zero on TTs so you can simply put out the same power throughout.

It seems they’ve drifted away from the easy-to-use philosophy that made them successful in the first place.

Check out this cool shirt I found. I bought two for father's day, one for me and one for my dad. My dad went to U of O for his Master's. And introduced me to the big studio albums growing up - Workingman's Dead, American Beauty. He never dove down the rabbit hole of their live jam band song book like I, but it's something that I've enjoyed sharing with him in recent years.

First day of retirement and I have a small to do list.
Cut grass
Buy a planter to put a cherry tomato plant in
Use existing planter for a beefsteak tomato
Rage-nap at will
I have a consulting agreement to assist the company as needed but I don't see this being used much. I'm not as much of an F up as you might expect. (So far)

Yes, if by "it" you mean posting on a bicycle forum that a nameless person has blue hair that looks bad.

The few times I've done TTs on Zwift, I cut it back to about 70%, so you still feel the hills but the steep ones don't totally throw off my rhythm. It works well and isn't just like riding the flats. I also run it there when I do any climbs that exceed 10% for any rel distance because otherwise the trainer starts straining, trying to provide enough resistance for the combination of the gradient and my lard ass.

Gawddamnit. I came here to ask you about upstate NY, and see about a coffee meetup or somethin' on my summer road trip, only to find that you've moved. Not only that, but you moved to the region that was my second home for two decades, but with which I no longer have any familial ties. Oy.

What I have discovered is that if i try to nap in the bedroom, I'm likely to get to the end of a half-hour nap lying face up, and then turn over and fall asleep face down and wake up 1-2 hours later feeling more tired than I was, and like I was taken apart by a brilliant surgeon and put back together by a shade tree mechanic.
BUT I've also discovered that if I wait till Mrs. GJ has gone for a nap, and I lie down on the comfy chair and ottoman for a half-hour nap, it seems to wake her up and I only get maybe 10 minutes. I wonder if it's the silence that wakes her?
Or maybe I snore like I'm gargling raw eggs.

My old wheel-on trainer, with my weight, used to max out at 9 or 10%, so it all felt the same even up to the 16% you see there, but of course it was still just the w/kg and that would yield about 3 mph.

We had a good ride today, although there was one incident for which I may need a BF reality check.
We were about 15 miles into the ride, coming around a bend, riding in a twin paceline, We all saw an object in the middle of the road. We slowed down a smidge and it was obvious that it was a wallet. I was behind and slightly to the left of the rider in front of me, he slowed suddenly and pulled LEFT. He cut across my front wheel and I missed bumping his wheel by inches. I pulled right and stopped on the side of the road, and FIRMLY (maybe with a bit of anger) yelled at him, saying "Hey, I do not like that! You cut across my wheel and that's not cool." He shrugged and said "I pulled out to the left." as if this excused his move. We are generally friends so I let it go and did not mention it again, and maybe it's asking too much, but I kinda feel like he should have at least said oops or sorry. Maybe he thinks I was being a dick for yelling at him. He is generally a safe rider, so I think I should let it go and not bring it up with him again.
Oh, we returned the wallet, it belonged to a person who lives in the house right in front of where we found it.
Thoughts?

Thanks for returning the wallet - the cycling world just got +1 karma points from that one.
