Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Try that today.

Anyway, at engineering conventions, when people asked, I just called myself a construction manager or construction engineer where licensed engineers don't get their hackles up or look down their nose at those titles. With regular people, I use my actual engineering title.
My bik did that for his entire career, also beginning in the 70s.

Killer Z race this morn, "Epic" series, 80 km. A lot of low gradient climbing back loaded on a 40 km course (Makuri 40), 2 laps total. I ended up 5th/26, 12 other As on the start line.

Pretty tame first half of lap 1. Into the climbs, I put in a big surge at the base and am holding 5-6 w/kg going up. I was hoping I would force a selection, but I didn't... the group just kinda ramped high 4's-5, then reeled me in when it flattened out. Damnit lol. I'm kinda cooked going over the top and into lap 2. Some beast of a dude is just crushing solo on the downhill, and two others bridge to him. Nope, not me, I'm trying to survive and thinking of quitting lol. But I didn't.

I sat in and focused on fueling and hydrating and my mentality improved over the next 20-30 minutes. I was ready to crush again in my chase group of 4. Another rider and I dropped the other two on the climbs, and then finished together more or less. Killer workout. Did some zone2 after and caught up on some work emails for a total of 3 hrs at 200w (3 w/kg)

We are going to Colorado in late July and I am taking my bike, will just pay the $80 each way fare and take the Habanero in the hard-shell case I have.
I flew internationally with multiple cardboard bike boxes, even before they were called regular luggage. Every time I went in prepared to pay whatever they asked. Every time I paid nothing. And almost every time I was flying out of IAD.

I figured you must have been sitting behind them with nothing else to do. Cataloging was kinda neuro-atypical, though.

EDIT: Do the trombones and tubas sit behind you? You could change your hair color to give them something to think about while looking at the back of your head, like those nice clarinetists did for you.

Avoiding an up close and personal "What Kind Of Bear Is This?" game sounds like wisdom.

Grass cutting activity achieved. I am not sure how many watts/kilograms I managed.

Sounds like they banded together to make you annoyed or uncomfortable. Did you say "Hi" to any of them?

Chimes and vibes. And yes, we do sit there unoccupied for blocks of time while the woodwinds and others try to figure out their parts.

It couldn't get much better than that, especially if accompanied with a mullet.

When you race, what do you set your Trainer Difficulty to? I used to race at 100%, but things like the kicker in Downtown Dolphins would have me out of the saddle pouring out the watts, burning matches on every lap. So I'm curious, especially whether you just set it to zero on TTs so you can simply put out the same power throughout.

The woodwinds are probably sandbagging, trying to delay the moment when the trumpets come in and blare into the back of their heads.
