Firstly I wouldn't really move out of the way of just a wallet... unless it was an unobserved obstacle and he was veering out of the way to be safe. Are you trying to imply that there is a "default" direction to veer towards (L or R)? It kinda depends on the situation right? Also why where you overlapping your front wheel? It's on you to protect that.
Thanks for returning the wallet - the cycling world just got +1 karma points from that one.

ah yeah, right. well, when people stop or slow really suddenly in front of you its kinda hard to not have it be a mess sometimes.... is there like some sort of scripted or preordained way to do that? It would have been nice if he went the same was as everyone else I suppose, but that's a bit of an ask in the heat of the moment

We had a good ride today, although there was one incident for which I may need a BF reality check.
We were about 15 miles into the ride, coming around a bend, riding in a twin paceline, We all saw an object in the middle of the road. We slowed down a smidge and it was obvious that it was a wallet. I was behind and slightly to the left of the rider in front of me, he slowed suddenly and pulled LEFT. He cut across my front wheel and I missed bumping his wheel by inches. I pulled right and stopped on the side of the road, and FIRMLY (maybe with a bit of anger) yelled at him, saying "Hey, I do not like that! You cut across my wheel and that's not cool." He shrugged and said "I pulled out to the left." as if this excused his move. We are generally friends so I let it go and did not mention it again, and maybe it's asking too much, but I kinda feel like he should have at least said oops or sorry. Maybe he thinks I was being a dick for yelling at him. He is generally a safe rider, so I think I should let it go and not bring it up with him again.
Oh, we returned the wallet, it belonged to a person who lives in the house right in front of where we found it.
Thoughts?

Even safe people have brain farts every so often. Even me, believe it or not. I would not bring it up unless it happens again.

Check out this cool shirt I found. I bought two for father's day, one for me and one for my dad. My dad went to U of O for his Master's. And introduced me to the big studio albums growing up - Workingman's Dead, American Beauty. He never dove down the rabbit hole of their live jam band song book like I, but it's something that I've enjoyed sharing with him in recent years.

Gawddamnit. I came here to ask you about upstate NY, and see about a coffee meetup or somethin' on my summer road trip, only to find that you've moved. Not only that, but you moved to the region that was my second home for two decades, but with which I no longer have any familial ties. Oy.
If you're in the vicinity of Manlius, NY, stop in to Sky Top Coffee. Tell them I sent you.

I had another one of those "Nap Or Ride" conflicts today. I went with Ride, but it was a near thing. Ever been tired enough that you know you shouldn't try to drive more than a few miles?* Yeah, like that. But I wasn't tired on the bike!!
I rode the Big Circuit for the first time this year. Last year I discovered the white coating on the NDS crank was flaking off at the pedal end - this is the Shimano Sante groupset - and I wanted to fix that. I figured it would be a winter project. Well, I FINALLY got to it in late Spring. I rubbed off all the flaking "paint", and used an emory board to remove the corrosion that had been under the paint. Then I too the crank to CVS to look for nail polish that matched. The problem was, the nail polish is somewhat translucent! Anyway, I smeared it on thick and now it looks fine from about 4-5 feet. I really like the Circuit, so it was nice to get back on it, even if the headwind was strong enough to knock 4-5 mph off on the descent that makes up the last ~ mile of that route. Just fun to ride and nice to look at!

*"Better Call Saul" featured one of the best car crash scenes ever. Kim is burning the candle at both ends, and is driving to a client meeting with a bunch of files in her car. She just closes her eyes. and WHAM! they cut to her waking instantly as the airbag has JUST gone off She drifted off the road into the weeds, and now that's where all her files are - spread out all over the weeds. Oh, and her arm is broken
