Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

+1 only base layers in the cold. San Diego cold means sub 70F. So much of time time in the morning. Afternoons in the middle of the year - rarely.

I never wear one in warm weather. If I start out with one on a cool morning and I get too warm, I will take it off and put it in my pocket.

I worked for a shop where the owner and his son both insisted they felt cooler with a tee shirt under their shirt. No way can I handle that, soaked with sweat and stuck to me while working.

Bikes: I've lost count.

ugh. brought a new Mac because my nearly 10 year old one is starting to get unresponsive and crashy. The process of getting the new one working has been as good of a user experience as Windows95.

It might be unsurprising, but not necessarily obvious. Is there any research showing a correlation between amount spend on a wedding and a marriage "success"? The expensive ones that end in "failure" always stick out, but there are plenty of low-cost weddings that fail.

My sister had a traditional style wedding, but was thrifty in ways, so they didn't spend a lot. The wedding was in our church, so minimal charge there. They rented a nearby house for the reception. My grandmother either made or altered the bridesmaid dresses. She also made a lot of the food at the reception.I don't remember who they got for photography, or how many flowers.

I had to buy a new Mac a few months ago because I couldn’t update the OS on my 10 year old 27” iMac that was otherwise in great condition. Got a Mini. Also had to get a new keyboard. Fortunately, I have a TV that I don’t use anymore. It is now the monitor.

You should see the location where that took place. It’s not as formidable as it is depicted in art work.

It’s called Washington Crossing. Guess that’s why old George picked that spot.

I avoided the fiber splicing when the service came to my turf. They were forcing OT at the time while I was trying to spend more time with the family. I made up for it at a later time.

She won the first 3 stages, (after Wiebes was dq'ed) but Balsamo lost 9 minutes (!) on todays' uphill TT. One of the old riders kicked ass.

I saw a video about cooking a chuck roast like brisket, saying it's easier and cheaper and doesn't take as long. There was a sale on chuck roasts at Safeway last week and TOB set aside a big one. All the recipes I could find said "3 hours in smoke till it reaches 175, then wrap till it gets to 195".

Well.

After 6 hours, it's stalled at 160. So it's wrapped and in the oven and I guess we'll go with the first plan, and get take out from Popeyes! BBQ chuck will have to wait!

I have been, via YouTube. There's a fancy bridge they could have walked across.

How big of a faux pas would it be to have a wedding without a reception? Would you forever be blacklisted by family and friends?

If I get married, I'd have it at the church in Elbe, WA. The size of the place limits the length of the guest list.

Clarinet section hair update:

There were four female third clarinetists on the row in front of me tonight.

One of them has normal hair.

The previously-discussed blue/brown hair was on the far end. Her blue hairs are fading. Not sure how that works.

The seniorist one has been in band for a while. She used to live in NY. She has reddish highlights to her hair. She seems oldish to be doing that kind of thing, but it's not badly done.

The other one did something to her hair during the last week. It's majority dark, but on the right side it is majority red. Not as bad as the blue hair, but still strange.

I think these are the only people in the band with their hair dyed unnatural colours. A cluster right in front of me. Weird.

Went by this church a few times in my cycling days, near the Foothills Parkway. I imagine you could rent it for a wedding.
