Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

As long as you don't have to sleep with an HRM with an alarm that wakes you when your HR drops too low, so you can get up and get that red pudding that used to be blood moving through your vessels before your heart stops completely, you're probably okay.

That, and don't do a bunch of cocaine.

I replace grains with taters when I need to lose weight. I am part Irish though, so take that into consideration

And avoid sugar like the plague, obv.

Master's 35-44 Cat 1-3 State Champ's Road Race this weekend. I am scored in the 40-44 division (5 year Cal Bear jerseys on the line). There are a few already that I am scared of. I will be happy with a podium, we'll just have to see.

She seemed to be doing ok but limits always respected.

One of my (many) quirks is I take pics of spigots and other water sources, so of course I took this one:

Do/did you know Linda?

Since Heidi is coming to LA tomorrow to visit her BF, we will leave her apartment in Koreatown and spend 2 nights in an AirBnB in Culver City. Probably done with LA cycling other than return the rental bike tomorrow.

I did, but not well. She was a member of a group I don't see often. I think I saw her once after she got sick.

If Pam had to turn back she must have been hurting. She loves that ride and loves climbing rides in general. I thought of her first when asking about joining you.

I'm guessing that it's because of the Illinois River being a major tributary of the Mississippi River. Marquette, Joliet, La Salle, et al came up the Illinois River in their explorations.

There's an article on NPR's website this morning about the word, discombobulation and where it comes from. Read the article for more. Spoiler, there is no such word as recombobulation or combobulation.

Don’t feel bad, over the years many have struggled with the unconventional format of this thread. It ‘s simply a thread that has been granted exclusive permission to freely stray from cycling topics to discuss virtually any- and everything else, politics excluded. The reason this exception to the rules was allowed was to accommodate this one individual user who was judged to be an asset to the overall forums . He was an exceptional talent, who stayed within the rules generally, so we let the subject matter in his threads stray wherever.

It all started with a bench . . . . . Addiction I

Note: The original thread was named “Addiction”, started by the cyclist named Patentcad. This, the Affliction thread, has been allowed to inherit the exclusive rights of the Addiction thread in honor of the late Patentcad.
