Mate, the 6-cyl XK engine (which was first introduced in 1948) is a magnificent piece of machinery, especially when teamed with multiple SU carbies - far better than any ugly worked American V8.

The aim of the club is to promote originality so I'm not surprised the guys weren't interested in his butchered XJ. If he had turned up in a completely original car - even if it needed truckloads of work - they would have been all over him like a rash.

BTW, the E-type has triple SUs whereas the XJ only had twin SUs (although the American ones had Strombergs and the later XJs had fuel injection). Just thought I'd chuck that in - does this qualify me as a car nut?
