I love the dash in those older jags, fighter plane cockpit style. I restored an old ford falcon from 1964 (ex parkes police car) in my early 20's and it cost me heaps for then. The cost of keeping the jag healthy would be a bit more I'd say.
Yep the car has great perv value, hubby has been stopped a couple of times by the police, just so they can drool at the car. And boy, does that engine wind up! Unfortunately, hubby enjoys driving it too much so I have only managed to get behind the wheel a few times.
You will never recoup the money you spend on restoration - far cheaper to buy a car that has already been done up (which is what we did). Doesn't actually cost that much to look after but then, we do have a hoist in our garage so we can do a lot of mechanical stuff ourselves. We also run on historical registration, so the on road costs are really low.
Only downside, you can't easily fit a bike in the back (just to keep this sort of relevant to cycling)
