Ive had about 4 slides that have scuffed my gloves. On one occasion about 1mm thickness of leather was abraded from the palms. Every time I was able to get back on the bike and continue my ride as if nothing had happened.
Without gloves I would have wrecked my hands, required hospital treatment and been off work or tour for a few weeks.
