It cost me about $2000 in airfare to get there and back. It's much less if you are only going for 30 days or fewer, but as soon as you fly just about anywhere in the world for longer than 30 days, the price nearly doubles. I have no idea why.

So ... that $7000 might not last the entire 8 months to a year unless you were really careful with your money.
Yeah I know It is a minimum of $1000cdn a month but more like $1500 with no worries; but the $7000 was so close that I just threw out my next dream trip . On the topic of airfare, it is down to $1500 in January (I flew to New Zealand for $1500 ) and $1000 in May to Australia from Vancouver and there are closer places to go to; but I never count the airfare in the trip budget -that is a fixed cost
Vancouver to Chili would be a good trip but I think I would start in Mexico.
