The second 'step' (sorry can't remember the name of any features - had two bridges at the bottom about 600 metres apart) of the twenty km climb touches 1 in 10 in places and is as smooth as a billiard table - and did I mention loooooooong. I clocked 114kmph - had the cateye memory to prove it.
Rumour has it that you can hit 80-90 on a hill in Remurewa somewhere. Thats like central Auckland man!! Talk about crazy. They also say you can break the hundred on hillview road, which runs parallel to State Highway 1 at bombay (The famed Bombay hill). Pity it's illegal to ride on the actual motorway down the Bombay hill, although a few people are thinking of getting a group together and motorpacing down there at 6am!! (before the traffic and cops get there)
