It's no big deal putting lights on a 'flash' bike.
I saw a guy in a race with lights on his bike, and I saw that guy the other week commuting with lights and a mudguard (!!!) on his $7000 Scapin!!
Was he riding on Beach Road? I'm sure I've seen him also.
BTW I had a back wheel spoke replaced by Kennedy's a few weeks back...just went and pumpede the tyres up for the early ride tomorrow and the f*ckin wheel is bent all over the place. Note to everyone, the mechanics at Kennedy has no idea of how to fix wheels!!
