yeah, I had a spare brake cable, and installed it on the front. The old one was fine.

I guess the rear derailleur cable gets the most use, and the constant bending and straightening in the mechanism weakens it, where brake cables are pulled straight in the lever.

I think I'll go with an annual replacement policy now
