The alcohol defence makes very little sense. On the previous stage he bonked badly we are told due to dehydration. Why would you then drink 2 beers and 4 shots when alcohol is known to also dehydrate. On top of that he comes out the next day and has the ride of his life. Doesn't really add up to me.
Maby he gave the bonking a miss the night before the big ride! That would lift the testosterone a bit
