New commuter shaves off time
Today was my first day to commute on the new bike; 05 Redline Conquest. I've been riding the 16 miles on a 1994 Mongoose mountain bike. I had no idea how hard I was working until this morning. The fenders keep things nice and clean too. Now I just need a headlight and some panniers...though the free rubbermade bin has a lot going for it. This is a big improvment over the milk crate I had on the MTB; waterproof, semi-aerodynamic, rigid to protect my lunch etc. Maybe I'll wait a while yet on those panniers. Thanks to all on this forum who have inspired me to begin commuting earlier this year! For those who are wondering, avg speed on the MTB with nobbies was always around 14 mph and with the cyclocross gearing and 700x25 road tires my average today was 17.5. When these tires wear out I will still probably go to at least a 28 for those times I need to abandon the pavement in a hurry.
