yeah, sorry. couch street.
i don't really ride on first much. every now and then, but the cobblestones are a pain in the ass. the max tracks there are easy to get around, though. the cobblestones end at morrison and it's fine from there, so if it's only a block or two to morrison, i'll take first...
i hate ladd's addition...i had to take some crap (xrays, i think) to a house in ladd's addition the other day with a rush going back downtown in my bag and it sucked...i hate ladd's addition.
thai basil is on 2nd and oak. the ash street saloon (ash between 2nd and 3rd) has good food prices during happy hour, but not amazing food. but not bad food either. the hot dog cart at 4th and main (by the courthouse) is bomb if you're really on a budget. for 2.50 you can get a polish sausage with so many toppings you can barely find the sausage. it's a ****ing great deal. i also like rovente pizza on 4th and washington. sushi takahashi is fun, and you can always pop in for a plate or two and end up paying 2 or 3 bucks, so you can have a cheap snack there. capt. ankeny's well on 3rd and ash has decent pizza and 2.50 for all beers on tap on wednesday (and 1.50 cheese slices). they have a lot of microbrews and local goodness on tap, so it's a good deal.
you'll have to cross the river to get tall cans or 40s. you can't get them downtown. wait, i lie. a store on 6th and glisan (i think) has them.
+1,000,000,000,000 on the skidmore bluffs. there are also spots along the river on the east side esplanade where there's cover for drinking, but not so much you can't see the skyling and sunset. there are some cool areas where freight trains pass that you can also sit by. explore.
