Goo Gone may not be lighter fluid, it does have that citrus smell, but it is very flammable. I can't remember what I was cleaning, or why I lit the paper towel soaked with Goo Gone, but it went up in flames very quickly.

I just rewrap bars without removing the residue, but maybe you want to leave some chrome showing. I don't know what Goo Gone will do to the chrome. If you have concerns, try a bit on a place that will be covered up.
