Keep an eye out for painted markings on the road and and metal manhole covers/grates/etc. Those will kick your ass when it's wet out.

Rain gear ... I've got an MEC jacket (Gortex), Burley rain pants (Gortex-ish ... really good quality) and LG booties. The booties are neoprene so they'll be decent in the winter as well (hopefully).
