Oh it's so nice to ride to work when it's 70 degrees with low humidity. This must be what it's like to live in California.

My back started bothering me some last night. I made a comment about it to my wife. Then when I was changing, she noted I had a big bruise on my back, and she pointed it out to me, exactly where I was hurting. I don't know what I did. I don't recall banging in to anything.

It was just achy last night, but was pretty dang painful this morning. It even hurt to breathe some. It's relaxed a bit now, but man, it's weird.

Another day closer to getting back on the bike; the longer I wait the safer it is, but everyday the pixie dust of wattage is leaving my body, never to return. My wife (and probably my gardener) is looking forward to it as well, I get moody just sitting around the house.

That 6 lbs I worked hard to lose are creeping back.

The good news is your first few weeks will be base building/fat burning.

After taking most of June off for vacationing, I struggled through July and am looking forward to getting back to some regularly scheduled training. My power meter is back from Stages (refurbished) and my new Garmin should be here tomorrow (currently using a garmin running watch attached to my bike by a strap smh) so I will have no excuse for being lazy.

Yesterday went out for VO2 but felt sluggish and for some reason had to focus hard just to keep breathing. Smoke in the air? Or maybe Sundays racing. Did a few efforts but not as much as usual.

Today straight commute, really easy with 5-10 second sprints/jumps and an 8' VO2 climb. Wasn't gonna hit the hill hard, but saw a guy up ahead that I race with and uses the hill for repeats, so I made it my mission to catch him before the top.

Plan on a longer ride tomorrow. I'll see how I feel and do somewhere between 40-90 minutes threshold.

big day today.

tad less than 5 hours with 4*8.5' (length of the hill i was doing them on) vo2 intervals. set a PR on the first one. z2 other than that.

i've been pretty down on my fitness lately so it's nice to see some PRs the past few days. i might not be doomed at GMSR after all!

time to rest up for the weekend.

Why does a 21 mph group ride feel faster than a 24 mph race?

Yeah but you were burning all of that energy gesticulating indignantly at perceived paceline inattentiveness. That probably wore you out given how little upper body strength you have to spare

Ha, it's why i had to fake a flat to regain composure!

Truth be told half of it was because one of the dudes was raining sweat onto me and I was grossed out and all curmudgeony...

well, i did my first hill session of 2016, and immediately reminded of my suckitude. on the plus side, i've set a personal best of 3min power (353w, previously was 336 last July) and tied for best 5min power (294w, last done in Jan 2016). on the downside, i'm heavier, so even better power equals slower lol

Remember to check your chainring bolts from time to time, or you'll end up with only 2 out on Highway 1 over an hour from work.

I got 2x20 in but only at 90% and it really hurt. 4:45 total with the last 90 minutes or so at 90 watts or so.

You should, a bit misty in the mornings but beautiful views!

Got new bolts, and also ordered a chain and cable set to get my bike back up out of embarrassment/scared the drive train will explode territory. And my cameras finally were released from customs and delivered but I have to pick them up from the PO on Saturday.

Red kite on Sunday, replacing chain and cables tomorrow. Maybe I'll even figure out how to get this camera set up as well.

~3.5hrs with 27 mins of threshold thrown in (the random min figure is because I did a local time trial course). 198TSS for the ride.

Am I brave for racing with him with said setup?

Or just stupid?

Aaron, be sure to let me know before your chainring falls off during the race! But we need a code word, so nobody else knows what's about to happen.
