Yesterday made me realize why the trainer is soooo good for intervals. Easy to hit those 2X20s. I must be crazy because part of me looks forward to trainer season. Now I am off to "commute" whereby I will end up being naughty and actually doing tempo because I just dont want to do a sad 45 minute commute.

No, I didn't. I kind of regretted it on the day of. I will probably ride it next year with the goal of under 4 hours.

Do they break 4hr every year? I know the top guys this year came in a 3:58, and I think I overheard it being a record. That's what happens when you put Chris DeMarchi and Phillip Tintsman on a tandem (Top SoCal guys).

I came in at 4:39, but I attribute a lot of that to a non-Platinum start. I could tell when I lined up that I was on a different level than those around me. I did find a few riders who would work with me, but I ended up doing a hugely disproportional amount of work on the front. If I could have rode with 4 or 5 other replicates of myself, I would have came in 20-30min earlier, easy.

I'm looking forward to next year and starting with the fast guys!

No, I came in at 4:13 last year, I got dropped about 2 miles from the finish as I was caught up behind a crash. So the winners last year were at about 4:09 or so.

Even with a platinum start the first 5 miles is absolute chaos. With cones on the road and people that hardly ever ride with others, it is a crash fest. The next major obstacle, as you know, is the first wash crossing. If you make it through that with the front group, you likely make it with them the whole rest of the way.

If you like, let me know the next time you are in the Ol Pueblo and we can hit up the Shootout or Lemmon.

got out of work early due to the holiday so snuck out for a short ride. was feeling oddly motivated and had some fire in the belly so i did some 10 minute intervals. been a while since i'm done a proper interval set and tbh i kind of enjoyed it. hopefully i can keep that motivation rolling through trainer season.

I raced a DUathlon today lol. It was something like 2 mile run-12 mile bike- 1 mile run. I somehow won despite breaking my bike shoe as I was putting it on in the transition area. Luckily was a flat course and I didn't need to stand at all or my foot would have probably come out ha!
My husband won, I came in 2nd overall. He had a head start after the first run, caught him right at the end of the bike course but he actually got out onto the second run before me.
Fun time and great to see some of my old multisport friends. Think I'll stick to bike racing though.
Happy Thanksgiving all!

Mild thanksgiving ride. Small group and an ok pace. 2 hours, 35 miles, 3800 feet, 150 TSS. We elected to start a bit later than the other local 300+ person thanksgiving ride and head into the hills. Saw some new roads which was nice.

Did 5 hours today, 240 TSS.

Steady, steady, with a few sprints for kicks.

Thought about adding the 14 miles it would take to reach 100, but said screw it.

yesterday was 3.5 hours of being reminded that driving two hours immediately after doing intervals, skipping dinner, and drinking beer is not a good recovery strategy. also, i think i may need to get better at pushing myself when riding solo. was with a group yesterday and comparing HR, I think I'm just really bad at pedaling hard while solo.

today is easy. might go for a spin or might just not ride.

After about 5 bouts of sickness have rolled through my house, keeping me off the bike for multiple weeks, today I climbed on the rollers for an hour of Z2. Kept my cadence above 95rpm just because that seemed a bit less boring. Nice to turn over the pedals again and get the blood flowing.

high volume week for me ahhhh. tues/wed was first sprint workout of '16 and a low/high cadence gig (pushing 60rpm in z4 and 5 is my favorite), yesterday was 4hr fun ride, today 3hr sliced with many sprints, tomorrow is 3hr 3x20min Z3 split between low/high cadence, sunday is 3hr of z2 followed by curling up in a fetal position.

What I wanted to do - spend 3+ hrs in mid 60s weather. What actually happened - 1 hr on the trainer doing sweet spot intervals. Irrationally annoyed

1 hour, high cadence.

@Ygduf had a much more exciting ride than me, but I'll let him tell the story.

X-Rays said lumbar fracture(s), CT came back clean. Just bruises and muscle spasms. Cyclobenzaprine, welcome back my old friend!

Maybe I'll save the story for the next time someone says crits are dangerous, cat 1s are safer, or that every accident is avoidable. I can't decide.

Really really relieved nothing is broken! I'll live with a week or two of pain any day.
