Heh, small world I was 6th in that race. Got caught in some traffic at the finish and lost momentum on that final kicker.
I haven't done the Sunday race before, it will be interesting to see how tough those hills are for me, especially since I'm about 40 lbs heavier than I like to be.

Chapel Hill Road Race 4/5
Marshaled from 8-3 then raced at 4:40. Dropped on the first lap. Very bummed, but at least I got a stinging sunburn on my face for the effort.

Standing for 7 hours, even with breaks, is a sure way to kill your legs before a race. You didn't have a chance.

Will probably miss you at all the summer races, unless the situation here changes.

That climb today was starting to suck pretty bad the last couple laps for me. I think I was on your wheel the last time we made the turn at the top. I was the bat city guy hanging on for dear life. The finish was a cluster, I thought the 40+ guys still had a lap to go and they would let us by. There must have been ~30 guys in front of me at the line and I didn't realize how few were from our race. I ended up 9th. Great weekend of racing. No wrecks and terrific weather for this time of year.

1st race of the year, crashed out. Either clipped a pedal or someone bumped me from behind in a chicane. Happened too fast to know for sure. Big knot on my hip, wonky feeling knee but minimal road rash. Bike needs new bar tape, shifter hoods, wheels trued, and some touch up paint. Other than that everything is fine.

Cat 3/4 crit. Crashed with 2.5 laps remaining. Got on and chased. Hovered 5 seconds back until the sprint. Teammate broke his frame.

I think I saw you out there today (black skin suit?) and I believe you won? If so, congrats.

Getting neutralized and then catching that master's open break at the end definitely changed the dynamics of the race; it got all bunched up and I lost my position at the front. Coming into the final turn I was pretty far back, but I chased hard on the downhill and timed it so that I caught the front group right at 200m out and was able to swing left and power through the finish without getting caught in traffic or losing any momentum. I was 4th across the line but pleasantly surprised to see that the 3 in front of me were from the other race.

Red Kite 35+ 3/4. 6th of 50 or so. Teammate wins.
My only goal was to do what I could to setup a teammate for the win. Just my teammate and I in the race from our team. I did zero work until 3 to go as planned. With 3 to go, there was a group of 3 with 12 seconds up the road. We had hoped the few teams with bigger numbers would pull it back. With 2 to go, break still at 12 seconds. Teammate told me to wait. At 1 to go, break still at 12 seconds and bigger teams failing/fading. We probably snoozed a bit on that one, but with one to go, I slammed the pace and did all I could and got us through to turn 3 and had gapped off most of the field. The break was just in front of us allowing my teammate and one other to connect just before turn 4. Teammate carried enough momentum through the final turn to pull off the win. The gap on the field was big enough that I was able to pedal squares in for 6th while avoiding a big crash behind me.
With a win in hand, we called it a day electing to avoid inevitable crashes to come.

I did red kite. results say 42 guys. 3-4 teams had 5+ I had me. Covered everything. About halfway they started doing primes and I would go with the prime group and attack. Get chased down. Do it again. And again. Eventually got a split of 9 guys. 3 teams had teammates in the split. ****. Got loose with half a lap to go. Had a moment where I thought I was winning, then got pipped about 50m from the line by 4 dudes. The teammates had killed themselves to bring me back, so 5th in the race and 5/9 from the break.
my last 90 seconds were np 500, ap 450ish. The effort to break the field was 16 minutes at 350AP/~400NP. Attack attack attack. Doing one race is kind of fun.

Red Kite p/1/2 - we won!
Small field of 33, we had 7. Us four cat 1's were fresh, three of our 2's had just raced.
Plan was to be in all the breaks.
The 2nd break was The One, and we had two guys in it. They (three of them) lapped the field, we led them out. Our guy won.
Profited, then headed to a taqueria because Norcal.

Yeah, first race sucked. Was still feeling the effects of recovery week and was ready to kill it in the sprint. Headwind section was very tight and someone up ahead slowed down and it propogated poorly. Teammate a couple riders up went down first and broke his frame. I saw it coming but had no way out so basically planned my fall and jumped up to keep riding. But the chain was off which cost me a few seconds. Put in 5.5 minutes at 120% but couldn't QUITE catch on. Frustrating.
Did the cat 2/3 race next. Still felt good if not quite fresh. Teammate got in a move of 6 after 20 minutes or so, and 2 other big teams were good with it so that was that. He got 2nd, and is now 6 points from his cat 1 upgrade.
In the field guys were getting tired but the same several guys kept trying to force a split. I followed almost every move, and a few times I thought we'd get the split but didn't happen. One to go I'm still sitting near the front, hop on the 3rd guy of a decent teams train. But guys slot in and the pace picks up and 3rd guy leaves a gap. I close it, look back and see gaps galore. 2nd guy of that team eases up to try and give first guy a gap. I wait for the surge, and follow it in the head wind backstretch. Ramp up through corner 3 and sprint into corner 4 but the sprint is already on and I hold position and don't gain. 6th in field, 12th in race. That's a good field sprint for me, so I'm somewhat happy. Would have liked to be in that 3/4 sprint though.
