I have a set of rims and hubs that I keep meaning to lace up, but I keep putting it off.

About had it with some stuff. Other stuff is holding it together. Great weather and getting outside has been nice. Still waiting for things to calm down enough so we can hire a sitter and go out. About had it with work. I firmly believe utilizing people's talents is a way to keep them happy even when busy. I swear, hire some temp validation folks if this is the crap you need done right now. What a waste of engineers.
Also, the time suck from the wife's grad school stuff hasn't been great. A year of her constantly doing that stuff and free time boiling down to Netlfix when the kids are in bed.
Two more weeks.

that's awesome, I kind of want to build my own. I still have the original wheelset of first raleigh roadbike, which came with 105 hubs (8 speed, but I still ride 8 speed on my allez) and sun m13II rims which could serve as a learning platform, but I don't even have a truing stand so at the moment it's kind of moot.
I've built wheels and I don't like doing it, I'd rather pay someone who's really good at it. It doesn't cost that much. It's the only thing I pay someone to do on my bikes or even my car.

I actually found it very calming to build the wheel. Just sitting there working on getting the wheel trued and dished properly was somewhat mindless but also required some skill. I can't really describe it, but I could see myself just sitting around building wheels in my spare time.

Got my Pfizer shot! On the trainer doing 85% intervals, haven’t felt bad yet in 2hrs lol
as for the wheel building, yeah I wouldn’t do it for cost savings or anything, just to expand my skills and I like the idea of building stuff. Not sure what a reasonable cheap/decent performance rim might be. A 32h rear wheel isn’t exactly performance oriented

I got into building wheels in my teens (1970s) and built boxes (50 or so rims/box) of Super Champions. I later got into just building for friends and weird lacings. We also made some of our own hubs esp. for tandems when 140mm was difficult to get. Last I built was just before the kids were born for the tandem. I still have my old Assos spoke wrench. I was going to build a pair for his final Nats for sentimental reasons, but 2020 kind of fell apart. If you use round spokes (don't) I have some pointers :-).
The Mercury Wheels are some of the best laced in the USA. They have builders who are W2 employees. That is rare. ax-Lightness strings them tighter than anyone @ 140kgf and the only carbon rimes I've seen that were never drilled (they mold the holes).

my little youtube channel is up to 7 subscribers, personally I can't believe each of my videos has over 100 views (and likes). I'll have to diversify my content to more general cycling and not just TR, I was going to make one highlighting my hometown area as a cool place to ride, and it'll give me an excuse to ride to one of my favorite wineries lol

I should clarify. They are plenty of 32 hole rims still being manufactured and largely available via distributors. I would not expect you to be able to walk into any bike shop in the US, except for maybe PSImet's, and find a 32 hole rim. Of course, I'm not sure many shops keep any rims in stock these days, especially with the increasing number of pre-made wheels out there.

A friend told me about the shop where I found them. It's a big LBS and he has a separate building with just parts.
The bad thing about going in there is he is a BMC dealer and I saw a bike I wanted.

Anyone know of a 2021 races calendar?
I mean those things where the event is pre-scheduled and there are rules for racing on the pavement and there is prize money for the winner.
USA Cycling is not listing half I am away of.

bikereg?
I'm unaware of any sort of calendar that isn't extremely regional in nature. Given the lay of the land these days there are really none without the date 2019 on them around here.

I did see that they plan on racing in NYC starting in June. Not that that's the info you're looking for!

cool
Our first race is scheduled for Saturday, June 19. We've had many discussions with the NYC Parks Department as well as other local race organizers, including the Century Road Club Association (CRCA), and we're in agreement that, based on current restrictions, June appears to be the best time to begin racing again. Here's the Castelli Series schedule:
- June 19
- July 17
- August 14
In addition, the Lucarelli & Castaldi Cup will also take place again in Prospect Park on these dates:
- June 12
- July 10
- August 7
- August 21
And we'll round out the season with the Kissena Fall Classic on October 2.
This is a fluid situation and changes might happen. We'll continue to keep you updated.
And a big thank you again to our sponsors: Castelli Cycling, velofix, CIS Training Systems Cycling Program and Finish Line Bicycle Care Products. Without their support our races would not be possible.
Stay safe everyone!

There was a four race series in CT that just finished up (results on road-results).
Stuff in NJ seems a bit more restrained.
I still hear the Whiteface races (6/4-6/5) are likely to be canceled.

So I started talking 'the other' drug - Tamsulosin. Some dry mouth, but in the first few days no insane side effects. In particular it did not jack my HR up the way the flomax did. I didn't give that much of a shot, so that could also have been something that would have self corrected. Three or four day in and I actually got some sleep. I guess, either way, at a certain point sleep trumps bike racing. I can't be very fast if I give up sleeping.
