The salt flats have an allure. I had the privilege of riding with Denise Mueller and John Howard this summer in SoCal and Denise, who won the 35-39 national crit this year and last year, plans to attempt a women's land speed record. https://tobefastest.com/?page_id=104
John, who is an Olympian and won the national elite amateur road race 3 years, said that he thought winning the masters was harder. He came in 3rd this year.
Everyone must have stopped at the Bonneville Salt Flats for pics. Where is a motor pace car when you need one.

off season race-ride at the penultimate sprint point. 10-minute leadout by me, for me. no one in sight when my gps battery ran out, so I pulled my phone out to start up the trusty strava ap, I took this glorious selfie. credit to me, steve jobs, and the makers of jet-alert.

Wee off topic - but I hope you appreciate this.
Huy Bui has a son that races and is seen at many race finish lines shooting great cycling photos - normally under TRU cycling. This is of course a special picture.
The picture is this week's lunar eclipse taken from Griffith Observatory (LA) by a SoCal cycling "amateur" photographer.

via. Bill Bushness, aka Mr. Bill.
There is no suffering like gaining 10lbs and then starting the hillclimb series. I choose to look on the bright side, it's like bulking muscle and if I ever lose the fat I'll be better than before.

i blame @Andy STi for posting CX pics in a road forum, but, well, i never post in this thread. was racing on the back foot from the gun (been sick all week), though i was not suffering as bad as the guy behind me. i took the gamble that racing would clear out my system. we'll find out tomorrow.
the photo's a snapshot from my friend.

Because who doesn't like cross pics, right @tetonrider?

Nice photo. Worked for me, actually - raced Saturday, hacked my lungs out for a good 30 minutes post-race, with regular smaller attacks for the rest of the day. Raced again Sunday, had a very brief, mild coughing jag in the first few minutes after finishing, fine for the rest of the day. Figure I was at maybe 90% Saturday, 95% Sunday. Should be in good shape for next weekend.

Ahh, cross season is here!
Where's the blood though, I mean you're making it look too easy!
Seriously, I can see that the rider's rear wheel hit the barrier right where a supporting post was, so no yield at all!
Rule number one with these barriers, hit the barrier between posts!
Rule number two is to keep the font wheel pointed dead-ahead over the fist barrier, for a straight-on path going in for the second barrier.

L'Eroica 2015, 214km of gravel, rain and mud on a pre 1986 bike. Not really a true race, but it is in Italy, you're on a bike, and you have a number pinned to your back. But this year I did it for speed. 9:20 total time, came across the line in positions 3 and 4 with some big Italian guy. He was ready to go again. Me..... not so much. Guess which one is me.

what's weird is that I remember Saturday's climb as relatively comfortable given that I couldn't hold on during the steep start and essentially rode my pace all the way up.
