I just remember all these hill climbs as a blur where I black out for ~30 minutes yet feel surprisingly OK when they're over. Presumably if I was fitter there would be subtle nuances to differentiate them due to the sometimes tactical nature at the front, but its all the same pain to me.

Can't blame ya - when I've watched those videos it seems like physics is being taunted or something.

Btw is it usually that dry? I pictured more mud up in the PNW cx scene.

Yesterday's race had some mud but it has been fairly dry so far. I'm sure the rain is coming, though.

My buddy just fractured his hip in 3 places a couple of weeks ago while practicing bunny hopping barriers in his driveway. Needless to say, his very pregnant wife is not very happy with him at the moment. I have a feeling he'll be dismounting more next season.

I feel like practicing a skill where you're probably going to fall over a bunch should be done on a squishier surface, like grass or a ball pit full of small children.

ugh. this year i've been very conservative in my cross dismounts...often dismounting a bit early and taking a few extra steps. i'm close enough to the end of the season that i can smell it, and not having to do a recovery from surgery during the off-season is worth more than losing a couple of seconds every time (as much as it pains me to say it).

New crit series began tonight; every other Tuesday until New Years. Too bad I'm moving back across the state to the land of retirees and zero races. I was lucky enough to get the wife to come along tonight, so I could get this photo. Finally have proof that I'm racing.

@scheibo is going to crush if he races enough to take advantage of my coaching. I need someone to live vicariously through for a few years here. Eat up and recover!

With cyclocross even a cropped image looks cool! Here I am about to take out the netting - this might be right before I launched myself...

All this is why you killed it at the Gorge gravel races this year. Looking good Andy.

What the actual F. It's easy enough to hurt yourself doing that on grass. Which is where you'll be doing it in a race, anyway. Hope he recovers quickly and fully.

I did a lot of work on skills heading into the season this year, both because I wanted to be faster through transitions and didn't want to hurt myself doing it. I have a bit of an inclination to be frantic and rushed when trying to go fast, which as it turns out isn't actually all that fast. Slowing it down, doing a lot of practice and working on being smooth has made me much safer on barrier dismounts AND much faster. I do want to get better at riding my bike over more obstacles, since I'll be racing elites next year and need to really up my game if I want to be even a little bit competitive in those races. But hopping barriers is a very advanced skill.

And here's a CX photo of my own, from a couple weeks back. I am slipping backwards and the suffering is oh so real. Photo by Jarvis Lee.

Just found this one from back in March. I'm not suffering in this, but I think my bike was pretty sad.
